Universal Appliance sends technicians into houses in Paramus and Teaneck, and each of those visits leaves a small trail of personal information behind it. Set out below is what gets collected through universal-appliances.com and through the office, why each item is needed, where it travels, and what you are able to ask us to do about it. The language here is the plain kind, not the legal kind.

1. Where this policy applies

It governs information Universal Appliance holds, however it arrived: typed into a form on universal-appliances.com, spoken to whoever answers the phone, or written on a job sheet by a technician standing in your kitchen. Other companies’ websites are their own business, and a link out from one of these pages does not pull them under this document.

2. What we collect

What you hand over. To put a repair on the calendar we need a name, the street a van is going to, a phone number, an email address, the brand of the machine, its model number where that is legible, and a couple of sentences on the trouble.

Card details. Card payments taken at the end of a job go through an outside processor. A full card number never lands on any system Universal Appliance operates.

What the server records by itself. As on any website, each request writes a line in a log: network address, browser and device, the page you arrived from, the pages you opened. Those lines keep the site upright and tell us which pages get read to the end.

The scheduling tool. The booking form built into this site comes from an outside vendor. Whatever you enter there is held by them too, since otherwise no appointment could exist, so their privacy terms sit beside this one.

3. What we do with it

  • Route the day, confirm your window, and say who is coming.
  • Do the work, and record the machine, the parts fitted and the labor.
  • Take payment, then issue an invoice with the warranty terms printed on it.
  • Deal with questions afterward, and with any claim brought under that warranty.
  • Read aggregate numbers so the site and the operation both get better.
  • Keep the records tax, insurance and New Jersey business rules oblige us to keep.

4. Phone calls and text messages

A mobile number left with the office gets used for messages about that job: a confirmation, word that the van has left for your address, news that an ordered part has landed. Your carrier sets what those messages cost, and we add nothing to it. Non-essential messages end the moment you reply STOP, tell the dispatcher, or say so to whoever is standing in your kitchen. Some way of reaching you about a booked visit has to remain, because timing and access still need settling with a person.

5. Who else sees it

We do not sell your information, we do not rent it out, and nobody receives it for advertising of their own. It travels only as far as the work makes necessary:

  • The vendors our systems run on – scheduling software, the card processor, and whatever sends your confirmation messages.
  • The technician on the job, who needs the address and needs to know what he is walking into.
  • A court or a public authority, in the narrow cases where the law leaves us no room to refuse.
  • Whoever buys the business, if Universal Appliance were ever sold, in which case the new owner inherits this policy as it stands.

6. Cookies and measurement

These pages set a small number of cookies. Some are structural and the site misbehaves without them. The rest count visits anonymously, which is how we know which pages get opened and which get ignored. Any browser will block or delete them, and nothing here stops working when you do.

7. How long we hold it

Job records last. The appliance, the parts fitted, the labor and the date coverage on that repair ends all stay with us while a warranty claim is still possible and for as long as New Jersey tax and business-record rules say they must, which is measured in years. Anything held purely so that we can send you offers is deleted the day you ask.

8. Keeping it safe

What we store sits behind the ordinary protections: access limited to people who need it, software kept current, and vendors chosen partly on how they treat data. Nothing connected to the internet is beyond reach, and we are not going to pretend ours is. What we will say is that your address and your card receipt get treated the way we treat our own books.

9. Your rights and your choices

Ask what is held on you and we will tell you. Ask for a correction, or for deletion, and it happens wherever the law does not require us to keep the record. Ask for marketing to stop and it stops that day. Privacy statutes in your state may give you more than this. Send requests to info@universal-appliances.com or call (201) 000-0000, and we confirm who is asking before anything is released.

10. Age

Nothing on universal-appliances.com is meant for children, and information is not knowingly gathered from anyone under 13. A record of that sort arriving by accident is removed once it is noticed.

11. Links that lead off this site

Now and then a page here points at a manufacturer’s own documentation or at a recall notice. Those destinations belong to other companies. The moment you leave universal-appliances.com, their rules apply and ours stop.

12. Changes to this page

When our practices change, this text is rewritten to match. The date printed at the top is the only reliable guide to which version you are looking at.

13. Questions

Anything above that reads oddly is worth a phone call. (201) 000-0000 reaches the office in Paramus, or write to info@universal-appliances.com and you will get a reply from a person rather than a form letter.

Want this explained?

Pick up the phone and ask. Ordinary language beats a clause you have to guess at, and somebody here will go through it with you line by line.

Book the repair

Pick a day and a window. A minute of your time, and we confirm it by phone or text.
