Numbers On a Page Instead of On the Doorstep
Standard practice in this trade is to hold the figure back until a technician is already in your kitchen, at which point saying no is awkward and everybody involved knows it. Publishing the ranges takes that squeeze away. Read them, think it over with nobody watching you, then decide whether to call.
What the Numbers Represent
Starting points, drawn from jobs finished in Paramus and Teaneck and sorted by appliance and by problem. None is a quote. Your own figure depends on the brand, on the part and on the labor it takes to fit it, and you get it in writing once the technician has finished testing.
What Pushes a Repair Up
- The installation. A refrigeration column behind a cabinet panel has to be eased out of the millwork before anyone touches the part that quit. In a Teaneck kitchen with 1930s clearances that is a real slice of the labor by itself.
- The nameplate. European and professional lines carry dearer parts, and plenty of those are order-only rather than stock items.
- Which part it is. Fitting a thermal fuse and fitting a control board take roughly the same labor. On the invoice they are nowhere near each other.
- Getting to it. A laundry pair boxed into a closet, or a cooktop set into stone, costs time going in and costs it again coming out.
- How hard it works. Equipment in a restaurant or an apartment laundry room runs at a duty cycle no household machine sees, sits in a tighter room, and often takes heavier parts.
